All About Me!

Hi everyone!

My name is Andrea Marano and I am currently in my fourth year at Brock University. My major is in Child and Youth Studies and I am also achieving a minor in English. I have a passion for working with children and I enjoy watching them become successful as I help them learn and grow in a school setting. In September I plan to attend teacher's college following the completion of my undergrad studies. Once I have completed teachers college I hope to get a position teaching in either a primary or junior classroom.

I currently volunteer in a grade five classroom and I enjoy every minute of it! I think that this class will help me in my placement as well as in the future. I knew pretty early that I wanted to be a teacher and I have been volunteering in classrooms ever since. It is a gratifying experience to see the look on a students face when they understand a lesson that they have been struggling with and it makes me happy to be able to help them through these experiences.

A fun fact about me is that I have been working in a toy store for almost three years now. I truly love my job and love interacting with parents and children as I see the excitement on their faces when they find the perfect gift. The toy store that I work at is quite different as it focuses on learning toys and toys that make children think, play, or learn a new skill. There is also the obvious perk of working in a toy store because you get to play with toys all day! It really brings out the child in everyone and I frequently have adults who are looking for toys for themselves to keep their mind active. The store is awesome because it brings out the child in everyone.

Additionally, I have a passion for makeup and nails. I love playing around with makeup and collecting nail polish to do new designs with. I also enjoy doing my friends and family members makeup. People are amazed when they see the extent of my nail polish collection but it is something that I enjoy doing and it is also therapeutic in a sense. 

The purpose of my blog is to have an outlet for my thoughts and a place where I can discuss the new things that I learn as I continue through this Digital Citizenship class. I will be sharing reflections on the new information that I learn in this class and how to navigate through cyberspace more efficiently and safely. 

The main thing that I would like to learn is new ways to integrate technology in the classroom as it is becoming more and more prominent in my placements. It is always interesting to see how young children are beginning to use technology and it is important to ensure that they are being safe while doing so.
