Hello everyone,
This week I was able to explore slideshow making tools such as Animoto and Prezi. I am familiar with Prezi therefore I utilized this tool to create my slideshow. Prezi allows you to use template presentations or create your own, step by step, slideshow. Visually, Prezi’s look like flow charts that zoom in and out of information sections as the presentation continues. I have used Prezi several times in the past and I enjoy the creative aspect of this website. The only limitation with this website is that it can be time consuming to resize and create a path throughout the presentation.
Working on this slideshow contributed to my digital literacy because I was able to utilize new slideshow tools that I can use for future presentations. I learned that Animoto is a great website to utilize for picture slideshows, whereas Prezi’s tend to be more information based. Additionally, I was able to practice citing photos retrieved online through this assignment and I am now informed on the process of citing online photos. I would recommend Prezi for presentations because it allows extensive creative freedom compared to Google Slides and the visual aspect is much more interesting and unique.
Furthermore, it is significantly important to cite ANY and ALL resources that are not your own when writing an assignment or retrieving information online. Citing sources properly is a large part of being a digital citizen as well as acknowledging the hard work that other digital citizens have created and shared online. Plagiarism occurs when citations are not included when they should be because an individual is claiming that the information that they retrieved is created and edited by themselves. Through this assignment I discovered that you can change the advanced settings in Google Images to properly locate images with a creative commons license that allows you to share, edit, and use pictures found online. When writing a blog, essay, presentation, etc. it is important that any sentence that has 3 or more words that are not your own, must include a citation.
The following is a link to my Prezi that I created to further my discussion of copyright and digital literacy responsibilities.
